Our vision is to be recognized as a community theatre organization that creates consistently excellent and accessible theatrical programming.

Our Story

The Brockville Theatre Guild came together in 1933 when Dr. J.L. (Jack) Carroll decided it was time for the “St. Peter’s Players” to up their game. 

In those early days, amateur theatre was serious business and membership was $2.00 a year.  Activities included performing full productions at local schools, but the organization also hosted script readings and seminars led by historians and guest speakers from across the region.  Through thick and thin, peace-time and throughout the wars, and now even though the pandemic, the volunteers of the BTG persist in the mission.  To promote theatrical arts and cultural events in Brockville and the surrounding region.

While the times have changed, the organization still makes every effort to get as many people on stage, backstage and in the audience as possible.  We have lately been making sure to donate a portion of available seats to deserving groups in our community who in turn can distribute them to those who might not otherwise get a chance to enjoy all the benefits from live theatre!  Our auditions are open to all, but you can also help backstage on the production team with costumes, set building and props; or maybe your talents run to production management and corporate relationship building with sponsors and advertisers.

Board Objectives

  • -policies: renew the virtual bylaw and policy committee

    -develop a clearer life member policy and make recommendations to amend bylaw (if necessary).

    -pandemic, conflict of interest and a Producer/Director’s policy

    -re-establish a ‘chief stewards’ and lending policy for the shop, costumes and property departments and work with the B.O.S. to align them

    -review options to catalog and then monetize props/costume lending

    -A.G.M. and board meeting checklist for the secretary and treasurer

    -revisit the webpage

    -examine a reserve fund policy; reinvest some capital.

    -endowment/bequest fundraising; volve financial structures.

    -fundraising through new initiatives, e.g. merchandise

    -sponsorships: annual cycle rather than show/production specific

  • -develop a Virtual Tour of the departments and elements of the theatre to then be virtually hosted as a guided online experience for use/reference/enjoyment of our community, e.g. Girl Guides

    -workshop new script(s) of local playwrights.

    -script reading.

  • -deliver at least one workshop for a key position on production side, e.g. directing, producing

    -deliver at least one workshop “on stage’, e.g. dropped lines workshop

  • -plan one or two ‘one act’ weekends for smaller venues this fall/spring

    -plan a major two-act for the spring (call for proposals/vetting etc..)
